Image of Farewell to PC Jon

Wednesday 22nd May was a sad day at Evolve Academy. PC Jon Tamlyn – the schools long standing Safer Schools Officer - left the borough and his attachment to the safer neighbourhoods team.

As many of you will know, the SSO role in the Metropolitan Police was deleted in 2025, with any existing officers being absorbed into the neighbourhood teams and taken out of schools. Although schools across the borough, the local authority and the local MP, Helen Hayes, made representation to the Commissioner & City Hall, we were unable to secure PC Jon’s continued attachment to Evolve Academy. SSO’s are being cut across London whilst other parts of England (Essex and Southend) are extending their teams, something we are struggling to understand.

PC Jon has been attached to Evolve Academy (previously Park Campus) since 2017. He has been a tremendous support to students, parents and staff and the gap left by him will be impossible to fill.

We spent the last day of half term celebrating PC Jon. He brought a local police team to play football against a mixed Evolve team. We then held a celebratory lunch for him, where we presented him with a personalised Crystal Palace shirt (no accounting for taste!)

We wish him well in the next stage of his career, but will miss him terribly.

Good luck Jon!
